UHBVN is
giving utmost priority to development of Information Technology in
the Department. The salient features of IT activities are given
below
-
The information technology tools
are being used for all the business processes. Various new
applications are being developed. The normal working of utility
right from sub-divisional field officers to corporate offices are
at present using desktop applications for day-to-day working of
offices and field. The data transfer and communication is being
done through broadband Internet connectivity. Around 500 PCs are
functional and operational in various field and corporate
offices.

The major initiatives that UHBVNL
has undertaken so far
(a) Computerized billing of 21
lac consumers along with related MIS, exception analysis, data
mining etc.
(b) The complete network and
consumers and assets are being codified and indexed through GIS
mapping software. The project is under way.
(c) The web based
solution for inventory management and control has been developed and
is in the process of roll out.
(d) The other processes of
pay, GPF, Pension are being operative through stand-alone software
developed on foxpro.
(e) The
application for cash collection is being used for all the cash
collection counters of utility.

There is no separate budget
allocated for IT related works. As and when the IT projects
conceptualized and implemented successfully, the budget for the
same is made available. On an average approximately Rs. 7 to 8
Crores are being spent on billing, computerization etc. and it is
likely that the amount shall be doubled in the year
2006-07.

There is a separate team for
looking IT related works in the utility, headed by Deputy General
Manager/Information Technology. At present IT related works are
being looked after by one Executive Engineer, one Assistant
Executive Engineer, two Programmers and ten JEs in the field.
There are proposals in pipeline for engagement of software
engineers and programmers on contract basis, which is likely to be
implemented in next one to two months. The complete IT
implementation is being overseen by the management of
UHBVNL.

UHBVNL has functional website www.uhbvn.com for its customer. All
the customer related information is available on the website. The
bill details etc. are being provided on website, which at present
is running on pilot basis and is under testing. The facility of
electronic payment is being tide up with various banks and shall
be operational within next three to four months on the complete
roll out of dynamic website for bill enquiry the facility of
electronic payment will be made available to the consumers. For
the facility of the consumers centralized call centers are
functional in all the cities under the jurisdiction of
UHBVNL.
